Quetta: Balochistan Food Authority’s Special Campaign Against Adulterated Milk Continues; 570 Liters of Milk and 200 Kg of Yogurt Destroyed

Quetta (Qudrat Daily): On the instructions of the Provincial Minister and Chairman of the Balochistan Food Authority, the Balochistan Food Authority’s special campaign against the supply of adulterated and unhygienic milk and yogurt continued vigorously for the third day. Various inspection teams of the BFA conducted operations in several areas of Quetta, carrying out special checking of numerous milk shops, milk-carrying vehicles and motorcycles, and milk units established in homes.

According to the BFA spokesperson, during the operations, a total of 19 milk shops, 52 milk-carrying vehicles/motorcycles, and 3 units established in homes were inspected in Raisani Road, Toghi Road, Alamdar Road, Jan Muhammad Road, CPEC Road, and Nawan Killi Bypass. Fines were imposed on 16 units for selling adulterated milk, while 2 locations found guilty of serious violations were sealed.

During the operations, the quality of milk was immediately tested on-site through BFA’s mobile laboratories. A total of 16,150 liters of milk was checked at various locations, of which 570 liters of milk found to be adulterated and substandard was destroyed. Similarly, 360 kg of yogurt was also checked, of which 200 kg was destroyed due to adulteration and poor quality.

During the mobile laboratory testing, cases of adulteration with water and skimmed milk powder were found in the destroyed milk and yogurt. In various samples, water adulteration of up to 10 percent, 14 percent, 20 percent, and 37 percent was found in the milk, while in some cases adulteration with skimmed milk powder was also proven.

According to the BFA, during the operations, violations including running businesses without a license, poor hygiene, contaminated milk cans, improper storage, and violations of health principles, along with other food safety law violations, were also found at several centers, against which action was taken in accordance with the law.

The spokesperson of the Balochistan Food Authority said that the purpose of the ongoing special campaign against adulteration in milk and yogurt is to ensure the supply of quality, safe, and healthy food to citizens. During the campaign, the process of detailed testing of milk quality through modern mobile laboratories on-site is also being continued.

The BFA spokesperson clarified that the special campaign against the supply of adulterated and unhygienic milk and yogurt will continue continuously, and strict action will be taken in accordance with the law against elements and center owners violating food safety laws.
