Decision to Curb Obscene and Inappropriate Content Under the Guise of Family Vlogging

ISLAMABAD (Daily Qudrat) – The federal government has decided to further tighten social media laws in view of regulating social media use in the country, preventing child exploitation, and violations of ethical boundaries under the guise of family vlogging. According to media reports, sources say that the proposed measures include setting a minimum age limit for users to use social media platforms and important proposals to curb obscene and inappropriate content under the guise of family vlogging, so that online boundaries can be ensured. The Ministry of Interior will hold extensive consultations with all relevant institutions and other stakeholders before finalizing this proposed legislation.

Sources have stated that this important development is taking place in view of growing serious public and security concerns regarding the economic and psychological exploitation of children on social media, online harassment, and unethical and inappropriate content spreading under the cover of family vlogging, so that the internet can be made safe. The consultation process is expected to include the participation of senior officials from PTA, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, and federal and provincial police.

In this regard, while examining international models, sources said that the government will also closely review the modern social media policies of various countries around the world, including Australia, while the possibility of imposing restrictions or stricter conditions on certain social media platforms that do not comply with regulations will also be considered.
