Remittances from Overseas Pakistanis See Significant Rise in January 2025

Overseas Pakistanis have sent a notable increase in remittances, with a rise of 25.2% year-on-year, according to the State Bank of Pakistan. In January 2025, overseas Pakistanis transferred a total of $3.0 billion to Pakistan.

During the period from July to January in the fiscal year 2025, the total remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis amounted to $20.8 billion, reflecting a 31.7% increase compared to the $15.8 billion received during the same period in the fiscal year 2024.

In January 2025, Pakistanis residing in Saudi Arabia sent $728.3 million, while those in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sent $621.7 million. Pakistanis in the United Kingdom transferred $443.6 million, and those in the United States sent $298.5 million to Pakistan.

It is noteworthy that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), under the leadership of its founder and former chairman Imran Khan, had called for a civil disobedience movement. PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram stated that the first phase of the movement is ongoing, urging overseas Pakistanis not to send their remittances to Pakistan.

During a press conference in Peshawar, Sheikh Waqas Akram mentioned that the call could be withdrawn if a judicial commission is established to investigate the incidents of May 9 and November 26, following negotiations with the government.
