Talks Underway at Highest Level for Imran Khan’s Release, Says Brigadier (R) Aslam Ghumman

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the National Assembly Brigadier (retd) Aslam Ghumman has claimed that talks are underway at the highest level for the release of former prime minister Imran Khan and that he will be out of jail later this year.

Speaking in an interview with ARY News, Aslam Ghumman said significant developments were taking place behind the scenes and negotiations regarding Imran Khan’s release were continuing at the highest level.

“I have spoken to some of the personalities involved in the negotiations, but their names are currently a trust and cannot be made public,” he said.

The PTI lawmaker said Imran Khan remained firmly committed to his principles and would never agree to anything that allowed a particular group to establish a monopoly over the country and its people.

Ghumman claimed that, given the prevailing political and economic situation, Imran Khan’s release was not far away. He alleged that the current rulers had failed to manage the country or run the economy and described them as a group of incompetent and corrupt individuals.

He further alleged that there was no good governance left in the country and expressed confidence that the ongoing talks with Imran Khan would succeed, resulting in his release from jail this year.

During the interview, the PTI MNA also referred to Federal Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, describing him as a decent and honest person who, he said, was not a product of Form 47.

At the same time, Ghumman criticised the prevailing political environment, saying it had reached such an extent that even a federal minister could not easily meet the prime minister.

He further alleged that the chief minister and other rulers appeared more focused on travelling in official aircraft and helicopters than on resolving public problems.
