National Labour Federation Balochistan Demands Reconstitution of Inquiry Committee into Sorange Mining Tragedy

QUETTA – The National Labour Federation (NLF) Balochistan has expressed serious reservations over the investigation conducted by the Court of Inquiry committee established following the Sorange mining accident, and has demanded that the Balochistan government and the Minerals Department reconstitute the committee to ensure a fully transparent, independent, and impartial inquiry.

According to the NLF, it is regrettably becoming evident that the investigation is being steered away from determining the actual perpetrators of the accident and instead directed toward individuals who have no direct connection to the incident. Meanwhile, the roles of the mine owner, leaseholder, contractor, and other primary responsible parties are being systematically ignored.

The federation stated that this approach is not only an injustice to the deceased miners and their families but also highly detrimental to preventing similar accidents in the future. The government must identify the real causes of the accident and those who violated safety regulations, rather than scapegoating innocent individuals.

The NLF Balochistan has formally demanded that the existing Court of Inquiry committee be reconstituted with neutral, competent, and honest members. The investigation must clearly delineate the roles of all responsible parties—including the mine owner, leaseholder, contractor, and relevant officials—and anyone found guilty should face legal punishment.

The federation emphasized that the Sorange tragedy should not be dismissed as just another mining accident. A transparent investigation and action against the true perpetrators are the only guarantees of real justice for the martyrs and the prevention of such disasters in the future.
