Mangi Dam Attack Inquiry: Open Hearing Held, Police Form 4-Member Liaison Team

QUETTA – The Inquiry Commission investigating the terrorist attack on the Mangi Dam Pumping Station in Ziarat district, headed by Justice Muhammad Amir Nawaz Rana, conducted an open-court hearing on September 7, 2026, advancing the probe into the deadly incident that claimed the lives of multiple police personnel earlier this year .

During the hearing, police officials appeared before the commission, and a four-member police liaison team was formally designated to assist the investigation. The team comprises (1) Pervaiz Khan Umrani, DIG Sibi Range; (2) Shafiqur Rehman, AIG Legal/CPO Quetta; (3) Syed Fazal Bukhari, SSP Investigation CTD Balochistan; and (4) Abdul Malik Durrani, DSP/SP Ziarat. The liaison team will ensure full coordination with the commission’s proceedings as directed by the Inspector General of Police, Balochistan .

DSP Ziarat briefs commission on security operations

DSP Ziarat apprised the commission that security forces are tightening the net around terrorist elements, and the police department is actively engaged with a comprehensive strategy to suppress militancy in the area.

Witnesses record statements

Multiple registered witnesses appeared before the commission and submitted their testimonies during the open hearing. The commission is examining all aspects of the attack, including security arrangements, police preparedness, and the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.

Proceedings adjourned

The commission has adjourned further proceedings until September 9, 2026 (Wednesday) at 1:00 PM. The inquiry continues to gather evidence and testimony to determine responsibility and recommend preventive measures.
