Karachi: SSP Korangi and Other Police Officers Found Negligent in Family Assault Case

KARACHI: An inquiry committee has found SSP Korangi Fida Janwari and three other police officers guilty of negligence in connection with the alleged assault on a brother and sister in Karachi’s Defence area.

The committee has completed its inquiry report and forwarded it to the Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi, recommending legal and departmental action against the officials found responsible.

According to sources, the report identified administrative negligence on the part of SSP Korangi Fida Janwari during the incident and recommended action against him under the Efficiency and Discipline Rules 2020.

The report also recommended legal and departmental proceedings against four police officials from Korangi district, including Darakhshan SHO Rashid Ali, Investigation Officer Imran Darakhshan and police mobile officer Aftab Mangi.

The inquiry committee further recommended that the case registered against the affected family be classified as B-Class and cancelled, while a separate case regarding the alleged assault should be registered on the complaint of the affected family.

Sources said the report also recommended registering a case against two women and a man seen in the video footage. The report stated that the individuals allegedly involved in assaulting the affected family were close relatives of SSP Korangi Fida Janwari.

The committee declared the investigation transparent, stating that all relevant aspects of the incident had been examined during the inquiry.

It recommended that legal action be taken against all individuals held responsible in light of the inquiry findings.

The report has now been sent to the Additional IG Karachi, who will decide on further action against the concerned officers and personnel in accordance with the recommendations.

The incident came to light after a video emerged showing the alleged assault of a brother and sister in Khayaban-e-Bukhari, Defence Phase 6. The footage reportedly showed a woman attacking another woman with a dumbbell in the presence of two uniformed police officers. A man in plain clothes was later seen allegedly using a government-issued Kalashnikov to damage a CCTV camera.

Subsequent footage reportedly showed a member of the affected family being dragged to a police station by officers, prompting allegations of bias in the registration of the case.

Following the controversy, DIG South Asad Raza ordered an inquiry and assigned the investigation to the SSP Investigation South.
