Sindh to Expand Public Transport Network, New People’s Bus Service Routes to Launch Soon

KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to expand the public transport network across the province, with new routes of the People’s Bus Service set to become operational soon.
A meeting of the Sindh Transport Department was held under the chairmanship of Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, where a decision was taken to further expand public transportation facilities for citizens.
The meeting reviewed progress on the expansion of the People’s Bus Service, double-decker buses, the EV taxi service, Pink Scooties and various BRT projects. Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, TransKarachi CEO Zubair Channa, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Behzad Memon and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
Sharjeel Memon was briefed on the ongoing operations of the People’s Bus Service in the province and plans to expand the service to different cities.
Officials said the People’s Bus Service would soon be launched on the Qambar Shahdadkot–Larkana route, while buses for the route have already reached Larkana. Preparations for the arrival and operation of double-decker buses are also being finalized.
The meeting also held detailed discussions on the operational model of the EV taxi service and measures required for its launch. Sharjeel Memon directed the authorities to complete all arrangements for launching bus services on new routes within the stipulated timeframe.
The senior minister said the expansion of the People’s Bus Service was aimed at providing better transportation facilities to the public. He announced that Pink Scooties would be distributed in Mirpurkhas on September 5, describing the programme as a revolutionary initiative to empower women and facilitate their access to essential activities.
He also directed officials to accelerate work on BRT projects and ensure coordination among all relevant institutions to avoid unnecessary delays.
Sharjeel Memon said the Sindh government was taking practical steps to establish a modern, safe and environmentally friendly public transport system across the province.
He added that expansion of the People’s Bus Service to different cities, promotion of electric transportation and development of major BRT projects were key components of the Sindh government’s comprehensive transport policy.
