Langau slams Umrani over alleged indecent remarks against female MPA, demands Speaker action
QUETTA: Balochistan Interior Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau on Thursday strongly condemned alleged indecent remarks made by Provincial Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani against Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) lawmaker Farah Azim Shah during a session of the Balochistan Assembly, and demanded that the Speaker take notice of the incident and initiate action.
Speaking on a point of order, Langau said the use of such language against a woman member of the assembly was regrettable and contrary to the dignity of the House. He asked Speaker Captain (retd) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai to immediately take notice of the matter and proceed in accordance with assembly rules and regulations.
The interior minister said Umrani’s remarks had hurt Farah Azim Shah and that the matter required redress. He added that the Balochistan Assembly is a respected institution where all members should observe mutual respect and parliamentary traditions.
Langau said political disagreement is part of the democratic process, but differences should not turn into personal attacks or indecent language. Members, he said, must give priority to the dignity of the House, respect for women lawmakers, and parliamentary values.
He asked the Speaker to review the full circumstances of the incident and take action against the responsible member under assembly rules so that such incidents can be prevented in future and the atmosphere of the House maintained.
Langau further said that providing women members a dignified and secure environment to speak and take part in political activity is a shared responsibility of all legislators. Political differences, he added, should not be turned into personal disputes; instead, the House should hold serious and dignified debate on issues so that public problems remain the focus.
