Provincial Minister Sadiq Umrani Stands by Statement, Says He Will Resign If He Is Proven to Have Used ‘Muhajir’ Term
QUETTA: Balochistan Provincial Minister Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani has strongly reacted to a resolution moved against him in the Balochistan Assembly, saying that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has made numerous sacrifices for peace and security in the province and that he himself has also been a victim of terrorism.
Sadiq Umrani said he stood by his statement and had made sacrifices for the land of Balochistan. Challenging members of the provincial assembly, he said they should take an oath and prove that he had referred to the people of Balochistan as “Muhajirs.” If they failed to prove the allegation, he said, they should resign from their positions.
During the heated proceedings, the Balochistan Assembly passed a joint condemnation resolution against the provincial minister by a majority vote.
Given the sensitivity of the matter, the Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly issued a ruling directing that controversial and objectionable words spoken during the proceedings on August 31 and during Thursday’s session be expunged from the official record.
