Over 3,000 Financial Fraud Complaints, Only 26 FIRs Registered by Cybercrime Agency
ISLAMABAD:The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) received more than 3,000 complaints of financial fraud during the year, but only 26 First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered, according to official documents.
The figures have raised questions over whether the agency is facing staff shortages or lacks an effective strategy, as the number of FIRs registered after inquiries into financial and WhatsApp fraud complaints remains extremely low across three circles.
According to the available document, a total of **3,005 financial fraud complaints** were received up to August 20 this year. Of these, **854 inquiries** were registered, while only **26 FIRs** could be lodged.
The agency also received **540 complaints related to WhatsApp fraud**, but only **16 inquiries** were registered. No FIR was registered during the eight-month period in connection with the inquiries initiated on WhatsApp fraud complaints.
The document shows that Karachi Circle received the highest number of complaints, with **1,870 financial fraud complaints** and **473 WhatsApp fraud complaints**.
Of these, **683 inquiries** were registered into financial fraud complaints and only **three inquiries** into WhatsApp fraud complaints, while just **12 FIRs** were registered in the Karachi Circle.
The figures highlight a significant gap between the number of cybercrime complaints received and the number of cases ultimately converted into formal criminal proceedings.
