US Plans to End Military Aid to Iraq’s Kurdistan Region

LONDON:The United States is planning to end military assistance to Iraq’s Kurdistan region, according to British media reports.

The reports said that the security agreement between the United States and the Kurdistan region is set to expire in September.

According to media reports, the US Department of Defense has informed Kurdish authorities that the security agreement is unlikely to be renewed after it expires.

Kurdish forces received approximately $61 million in US assistance this year under the security arrangement, the reports said.

A Kurdish leader warned that ending the assistance could create a power vacuum in the region and potentially increase Iran’s influence.

The development comes amid broader regional security concerns, with Kurdish authorities expressing apprehension over the potential consequences of reduced US military support.
