Nepotism and Bribery in Government Offices Fuel Corruption in Balochistan: JUI
QUETTA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leaders in Quetta have said that the use of influence and bribery even for legitimate work in government offices is promoting corruption, injustice and the denial of citizens’ rights in Balochistan.
In a joint statement, JUI Quetta district leaders, including Maulana Abdul Rehman Rafiq, Haji Ainullah Shams, Maulana Khursheed Ahmed, Maulana Mohibullah, Maulana Muhammad Ayub and others, said bribery was undermining transparency in the administrative system and weakening the foundations of merit, honesty and justice in society.
They said money earned through unlawful means might appear to bring material prosperity, but it lacked blessing, peace and goodness. They expressed concern that the pursuit of wealth was increasingly causing people to overlook the importance of lawful earnings and seeking the pleasure of Allah, contributing to growing social unrest, mistrust and moral decline.
The JUI leaders said Islam strictly prohibited bribery and that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had issued a stern warning against both those who give and those who take bribes. They urged Muslims to completely refrain from unlawful earnings and corrupt practices.
They said undermining merit, nepotism, misuse of authority and bribery amounted to depriving the public of their rights.
The leaders stressed that government institutions should process citizens’ legitimate requests impartially, on merit and in accordance with established laws and regulations.
They urged the relevant authorities to take effective measures to eliminate bribery and corruption, ensure transparency in government departments and remove obstacles preventing citizens from obtaining their legitimate rights.
