Cholera Outbreak Escalates in Qalat, Two Children Die; Patients Shifted to Quetta and Khuzdar
QALAT: A suspected cholera outbreak has reportedly intensified in Balochistan’s Qalat district, claiming the lives of two children in the Mughalzai area, while several other children have been affected and shifted to Quetta, Mastung and Khuzdar for further treatment.
The deceased children were identified as 12-year-old Aminullah, son of Ghulam Mustafa, belonging to the Langau community, and three-year-old Muhammad Ahmed, son of Shabbir Ahmed, belonging to the Zehri community.
Local sources confirmed that multiple children in Mughalzai and other parts of Qalat are suffering from cholera and other illnesses. Residents said the lack of timely medical facilities has compounded the difficulties faced by affected families.
The reported outbreak has caused concern among parents in Mughalzai and surrounding areas, with residents urging the government to take immediate notice of the situation and conduct a thorough investigation.
Local people have also expressed concern over the alleged absence of the District Health Officer (DHO) in Qalat for several months, raising questions about the district’s health administration.
Residents have demanded that the provincial Health Department immediately dispatch medical teams to Mughalzai and adjoining areas, examine and treat affected patients, and ensure the availability of medicines.
They also called for emergency measures to control the outbreak, including the provision of clean drinking water, testing of water samples and disinfection of affected areas.
Public representatives and local residents have urged the Balochistan government and senior Health Department officials to take the situation seriously, establish medical camps in the affected areas and provide immediate healthcare facilities to prevent further loss of life.
