‘Imran Khan’s Health Is Deteriorating’: PTI Files Contempt Plea Again in Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: Uzma Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has filed another application in the Supreme Court seeking an urgent hearing of the contempt of court petition concerning the former prime minister’s treatment.

According to sources, the application states that Imran Khan’s health is deteriorating in jail and that the matter concerning his health and life is of an extremely serious nature.

Uzma Khan has requested the Supreme Court to order that Imran Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital for a medical examination and treatment.

The application maintains that the Supreme Court’s August 18 order was violated when Imran Khan was taken to PIMS Hospital instead of Shifa International Hospital. It further alleges that the court’s order was not implemented in its true spirit.

Uzma Khan urged the authorities to ensure immediate and complete implementation of the Supreme Court’s directives, arguing that continued failure to comply with judicial orders amounts to deliberate and clear disobedience of the law.

The application further states that the court’s case-fixation policy should not prevent an urgent hearing of the contempt petition. It noted that an earlier request for an urgent hearing had already been rejected on August 25.

The petitioner has requested the Supreme Court to fix the contempt petition for an urgent hearing and take it up during the current or next week.

The first application seeking an urgent hearing of the contempt petition had earlier been rejected by the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office.

On August 18, the Supreme Court had ordered that Imran Khan be shifted from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a medical examination. The court had also directed that a comprehensive medical board be constituted, that Imran Khan be allowed to meet his family and that he be facilitated to speak to his sons by phone.

However, instead of being taken to Shifa Hospital, Imran Khan was shifted to the government-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad during the night between Thursday and Friday. Following a medical examination, he was transferred back to Adiala Jail at around 5 a.m. Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Atta Tarar subsequently confirmed the development in a post on his social media account on X.

PTI had initially filed a contempt petition before the Supreme Court on August 19. The petition was returned, after which the party was allowed to refile it once the objections raised by the Registrar’s Office had been addressed.
