Rana Sanaullah Says May 9 Attack Will Neither Be Forgiven nor Forgotten
ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Senator Rana Sanaullah has said that the May 9, 2023 incidents constituted an attack on the state and military institutions and would neither be forgiven nor forgotten.
Speaking on a Samaa TV programme, Sanaullah said former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief General (retd) Faiz Hameed and several other individuals would also be formally charge-sheeted in connection with the May 9 events.
He said the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) had made it clear on the first anniversary of the incident that May 9 was an attack on the institution and that there could be no compromise on the matter.
Sanaullah added that if a sincere and heartfelt apology was offered over the May 9 incidents, the situation could potentially move forward.
Discussing the country’s political situation, the PML-N leader said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had, after 10 to 15 years of political confrontation, realised that their approach had been wrong and decided to work together. He added that Imran Khan subsequently entered the political scene and “has not been manageable” since then.
Regarding Imran Khan’s possible transfer to a hospital, Sanaullah said the former prime minister was initially being considered for treatment at Shifa International Hospital rather than PIMS. However, he said intelligence agencies had reported that his transfer to Shifa could create a serious law-and-order situation there.
He further claimed that under the law, prisoners could only receive treatment at government hospitals and could not be transferred to private hospitals.
Expressing deep sorrow over the deaths of newborns in the PIMS fire, Sanaullah said incidents involving newborn babies being stolen from hospitals or dying in such accidents were extremely serious issues.
He called for a complete and transparent inquiry into the PIMS tragedy and said any officer or official found responsible for negligence should be given exemplary punishment.
