Saudi Arabia Expresses Condolences Over PIMS Hospital Tragedy in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD:Saudi Arabia has expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the deaths of 14 newborn babies in a fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, praying for peace and safety for Pakistan and its people.

In a statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the kingdom said it was deeply saddened by the deaths of the newborns at PIMS Hospital.

The ministry expressed solidarity with the government and people of Pakistan during the difficult time and prayed for peace, security and safety for Pakistan and its brotherly people.

The tragedy occurred on Wednesday morning when a fire broke out in the nursery of the gynecology ward at PIMS Hospital. According to rescue officials, the fire started at around 6:45 a.m., reportedly after an air-conditioner compressor exploded.

Hospital authorities said 15 babies were present in the nursery when the fire broke out. A lady doctor managed to rescue only one newborn, while 14 babies died in the incident.
