NDMA Warns of Heatwave, Rainfall and Landslide Risks Across Pakistan

Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather outlook and risk assessment for June 7–12, warning of intense heat, possible rainfall, and an increased risk of landslides and flooding in several parts of the country.
According to the NDMA, temperatures are expected to remain significantly above normal in Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, where heatwave conditions are likely to persist throughout the forecast period.
The authority said that upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and northern Punjab are also expected to experience a rise in temperatures from June 7 to June 10.
However, weather conditions are expected to change between June 11 and June 12, with rain forecast in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and various districts of northern Punjab. Lahore is likely to receive rainfall accompanied by strong winds during the same period.
In Sindh, Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur are expected to experience hot and dry weather, while similar conditions are forecast for most parts of the province, including Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar.
The NDMA also predicted light rain with thunderstorms in Zhob and Musakhel on June 11 and 12, although intense heat is expected to continue across the plains of Balochistan.
Meanwhile, thunderstorms and rainfall are forecast for Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Peshawar. Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are expected to receive intermittent rainfall throughout the June 7–12 period.
The NDMA warned that rapidly melting glaciers have increased the risks of flash floods and landslides in mountainous regions. Areas considered particularly vulnerable include Hunza, Nagar, Gilgit, Chilas, Astore, Shigar, Chitral, Kalam, Upper Kohistan, and Azad Kashmir.
Authorities have also cautioned that landslides may disrupt travel on key routes, including Shigar Valley Road, Skardu Road, Deosai Road, and the Karakoram Highway. Citizens have been advised to check road and weather conditions with relevant authorities before undertaking travel.
The NDMA urged residents, tourists, and local administrations to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions in view of the expected weather conditions and associated hazards.
