U.S. Responds to Legal Proceedings Against Imran Khan

Washington: The U.S. State Department spokesperson, Matthew Miller, has classified the legal matters involving Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as an internal affair of Pakistani courts. He stated that these issues fall within Pakistan’s legal framework and that the U.S. has no role in them.
In a recent press briefing, a journalist inquired about PTI leader Latif Khosa’s claims that if former U.S. President Donald Trump were to be re-elected, Khan might be released from jail. Khosa also alleged that U.S. Ambassador Donald Lu played a role in Khan’s ousting from the prime ministership. Miller responded by labeling these allegations as baseless, reiterating that such claims have been previously denied.
Miller emphasized that decisions regarding Pakistani politics are solely in the hands of the Pakistani people, who have the right to make choices freely under their constitution and laws. He reinforced that U.S. interference in Pakistani political matters is not part of the American agenda.
Regarding the accusations against U.S. diplomats, Miller firmly denied any U.S. involvement in Khan’s removal from office, calling the claims mere speculation. He reiterated that the U.S. maintains a policy of mutual respect and sovereignty in its relations with Pakistan, allowing each country the autonomy to handle its internal affairs.
