Sindh to Implement SOPs for Private Security Guards Assigned to Protect Foreign Nationals

The Sindh government has decided to implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding the security of foreign nationals, specifically concerning private security guards assigned to their protection. As part of the new measures, private security guards will receive police training to enhance their skills and ensure more effective security.
On Wednesday, a review meeting was held at the Central Police Office Karachi under the chairmanship of IG Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon. The meeting discussed the implementation of SOPs formulated by both the Pakistan and Sindh governments. Major Retired Munir Ahmed, Chairman of the All Pakistan Security Agencies Association (APSSA), attended the meeting with a five-member delegation.
The meeting was attended by senior police officers, including DIGs, IT, SPU, Training, and other relevant officials. During the briefing, Major Retired Munir Ahmed provided an update on the current situation and the implementation of the SOPs, emphasizing the need for compliance.
It was revealed that a comprehensive database of private security guards working for the protection of foreign nationals, particularly Chinese nationals, has been compiled. Guards who are verified and registered will be issued service cards with barcodes, allowing for real-time verification through a mobile application.
The delegation called for strict action against unregistered private security companies and guards operating without proper documentation. IG Sindh instructed that a coordination mechanism be set up by DIG SPU to ensure the effective implementation of SOPs and other related matters. Additionally, private guards will undergo firearms training at police training schools located in Karachi and other parts of Sindh.
IG Sindh emphasized that neither plainclothes nor uniformed security personnel are allowed to display weapons in public. In cases where security guards are found to have criminal records, they will be handed over to the relevant police station via the police helpline, 15.
These initiatives aim to strengthen security measures in Sindh, ensuring the safety of foreign nationals and maintaining law and order in the region.
