Sindh High Court Suspends Pakistan Railways’ Demand Notice to K-Electric
Karachi: The Sindh High Court has issued a stay order on the demand notice sent by Pakistan Railways to K-Electric for payment. The court was hearing a petition filed by K-Electric challenging the demand notices issued by Pakistan Railways.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that Pakistan Railways had been persistently demanding money for the installation of electric poles and wires. The railways had sent K-Electric four separate demand notices for the payment. K-Electric’s lawyer contended that under the law, Pakistan Railways had no authority to make such claims. The installations in question were made before the privatization of K-Electric, and Pakistan Railways was allegedly using these tactics to avoid paying its electricity bills, with demands varying between 500 million to 5 billion rupees.
Pakistan Railways had warned that if K-Electric did not pay the amount, the installations would be removed. However, the court issued a stay order, suspending the four demand notices issued by Pakistan Railways. The court also directed that notices be issued to Pakistan Railways, the Deputy Attorney General, and other relevant parties, and requested responses by December 12.
