Severe Flooding in Washuk and Baseema: Extensive Damage to Crops and Infrastructure
Quetta:In a devastating turn of events, the Washuk region, particularly in Sajad and Baseema, has been hit hard by severe flooding. Low-lying areas, including Kalghali, Dot, Injiri, Kashmi, and Leri Mazar, have been submerged as rivers overflowed and several embankments collapsed.
The floodwaters have destroyed crops in Sajad, including onions and cotton, and swept away herds of sheep and goats. Water has inundated homes in Sajad, Zik, and Siyahozi, leading to significant damage. Additionally, torrential rains and strong winds have damaged numerous solar panels.
The Khuzdar to Baseema road has been rendered impassable in several sections due to the flooding, and the situation in the Rakhshan area has also been dire. The intense flooding in the Kalghali River has led to a suspension of traffic on the Khuzdar to Baseema route for hours.
The Baseema administration is on high alert, with the Levies Force deployed throughout various areas to manage the emergency. In Zik, floodwaters have entered the homes of disabled individuals, causing severe damage. Baseema and its surrounding areas have experienced significant losses, with water sweeping away crops and damaging link roads.
In Siyahozi, at the Sultanabad point, the Kashmi River bridge has become a critical issue for local residents, as inadequate drainage capacity has led to repeated inundation of the village. The current flood has once again breached the village boundaries.
