Islamabad:Senator Talal Chaudhry, a central figure in the Muslim League (Nawaz), has voiced concerns over the lack of effective implementation of social media laws in Pakistan, despite their presence globally. In an interview, Chaudhry emphasized the need for regulations governing social media, highlighting instances where individuals have been unfairly targeted and content has been censored without legal basis.
He stressed the importance of providing investigative agencies with the necessary tools to conduct thorough inquiries, urging the government to equip institutions with appropriate technical resources. Chaudhry pointed out that while social media laws are in use worldwide, their absence in Pakistan raises questions about effective control mechanisms.
Responding to inquiries about tax compliance, Chaudhry noted that the country’s tax-to-GDP ratio remains dangerously low compared to global standards where taxes play a vital role in sustaining nations.
