Islamabad:Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has raised concerns over a looming constitutional crisis, suggesting that efforts are underway to declare upcoming elections null and void under the pretext of impending emergencies.
Speaking in a private TV program, Asif highlighted the role of Fitch Ratings in assessing political stability, emphasizing the precarious nature of current circumstances. He expressed readiness to go to any lengths to safeguard the government, hinting at potential constitutional maneuvers.
Asif warned of a constitutional meltdown amidst threats of an institutional meltdown within the next 18 months, as indicated in Fitch’s recent report. He noted public preparedness for inclusion in a technocratic government amidst ongoing terrorism challenges.
Addressing the political landscape, Asif acknowledged potential disagreements with the People’s Party despite alliance, lamenting the lack of consultation on imposing restrictions on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) without prior discussion.
He criticized the handling of Imran Khan’s release, questioning the absence of a response to offers from Shahbaz Sharif, Prime Minister, and the resultant tumult.
Referring to Donald Trump and Imran Khan as ‘twins,’ Asif equated the PTI founder and Trump. He warned of ongoing systemic threats and ongoing targeted operations against terrorists, calling for patience among all political factions while mourning the deaths of children.
