Pakistan and India Honour Ahsaf Bashir for Saving Lives During Hajj 2024

Pakistani citizen Asif Bashir has been recognized by both Pakistan and India for his heroic efforts in saving the lives of several pilgrims during Hajj 2024. On Thursday, the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, awarded Asif Bashir the prestigious civil award *Tamgha-e-Imtiaz*, while India announced it would confer upon him a distinguished Indian civilian award on January 26, 2025.

The ceremony in Islamabad, where President Zardari presented Bashir with the *Tamgha-e-Imtiaz*, recognized his extraordinary bravery in saving the lives of around 44 pilgrims. At the time, Asif Bashir was serving as a Hajj Assistant. Currently, he works as a computer operator at the DC office in Peshawar.

Bashir’s exceptional act of saving the pilgrims, including 24 Indian Hajjis, during the sweltering heat in Mina, gained international acclaim. As a result, the Indian government has nominated him for the *Mahatma Gandhi Peace Award*, and he has been invited to New Delhi on January 26, 2025, to receive this distinguished honor.

Indian media have lauded Bashir’s humanitarian efforts, and social media posts have celebrated his selfless service, which has become an example of compassion beyond borders. His actions during the Hajj have inspired many and demonstrated the power of human kindness.

Asif Bashir’s courageous act of saving lives during Hajj 2024 has solidified his place as a symbol of goodwill and service, earning recognition across both nations.
