Karachi Prepares for Potential Increase in Electricity Tariffs

KARACHI: Residents of Karachi may soon face higher electricity rates as preparations are underway to raise the cost per unit by Rs. 5.45.

K-Electric has submitted a request for fuel price adjustments, seeking an increase for the months of May and June. The request will be heard today by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), which will decide on the final decision regarding the proposed tariff hikes.

According to the application, an increase of Rs. 2.53 per unit is sought for May, while Rs. 2.92 per unit is requested for June, citing adjustments in the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA).

The hearing today will determine whether the requested increases will be approved, impacting electricity bills for consumers in Karachi.
