Granddaughter of Former Pakistan Cricketer Colonel (R) Naushad Represents Scotland in ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier

Lahore – Marium Faisal, the granddaughter of former Pakistan Test cricketer, team manager, and selector Colonel (R) Naushad, has earned a spot in the Scotland women’s cricket team for the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier.
In an interview with a private TV channel, the 19-year-old Scottish player of Pakistani origin shared how her late grandfather – whom she lovingly called “Baba” – played a crucial role in sparking her interest in cricket. “My twin brother and I started playing cricket because of Baba. He was my biggest support,” she said.
Marium, who has already represented Scotland in 1 ODI and 6 T20 Internationals, recounted a turning point in her journey. “We went to watch Pakistan’s series against Sri Lanka in Dubai, where Baba was the team manager. Before that, I had no interest in cricket, but after returning, my brother joined a cricket club – and I followed suit.”
She also spoke about the challenges she faced early in her career. “I failed in Under-19, but Baba encouraged me. The next season, I performed well,” she said.
Expressing her emotions about playing in Pakistan, she said, “It feels special to play in the country of my roots. Playing where you belong is a dream come true.”
Marium also reflected on the lack of South Asian girls in professional sports, saying, “Desi girls often don’t get into sports, maybe due to family restrictions or lack of personal interest.”
With her rising career and unique background, Marium Faisal stands as an inspiring figure for aspiring female cricketers, especially those from South Asian communities.
