Former U.S. Attorney for Eastern District of Virginia, Jessica Aber, Found Dead

Jessica Aber, who served as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia for three years before resigning in January, was found dead on Saturday in Alexandria. She was 43 years old.
According to the Alexandria Police Department, Aber’s body was discovered at 9:20 a.m. on Saturday. Authorities have not yet indicated that her death is suspicious, and the cause of death will be determined following a medical examination. The police added that, as per protocol, investigations into her death are ongoing.
Aber had resigned from her position as U.S. Attorney on January 20, 2023. She was appointed by President Joe Biden on August 10, 2021, and her nomination was confirmed by the Senate. Prior to her appointment as U.S. Attorney, Aber had served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the district since 2009 and was the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division before being named U.S. Attorney.
U.S. Attorneys are politically appointed and can be removed at the discretion of the President. Former President Donald Trump had previously stated in February on Truth Social that he instructed to remove all U.S. Attorneys under Biden’s administration.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney for the district, Eric S. Sebert, expressed his deep sorrow over Aber’s death, calling her “an unmatched leader, mentor, and prosecutor.”
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi also extended her condolences, stating that Aber’s death was “extremely tragic” and highlighting her significant role as the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
