Federal Minister Owais Leghari Rejects Reports on IMF Influence on Electricity Price Cuts

Federal Minister for Power, Owais Leghari, has dismissed media reports suggesting that a significant reduction in electricity prices has been halted due to pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Speaking to the media after an event in Islamabad on Tuesday, Leghari assured that electricity prices would be reduced, and that these claims would be substantiated in the coming days. He stated that whether it happens in two days or later, the Prime Minister will soon deliver good news to the nation.
The Minister also highlighted that a reduction of 32 rupees per unit has been made for electricity rates at charging stations for electric vehicles, lowering the price from 71 rupees to 39 rupees per unit.
Leghari emphasized that the current government is committed to its promises and is firm in its stance, unlike the previous administration.
Previously, despite a decrease in global oil prices, the government had maintained the fuel prices, with the Prime Minister assuring that the benefit of reduced petroleum prices would be passed on to the public through a reduction in electricity tariffs.
