Federal and Provincial Agencies Default on Over PKR 256 Billion to Power Distribution Companies
Islamabad: Federal and provincial government agencies have been reported as defaulters for more than PKR 256 billion owed to power distribution companies (DISCOs). According to Express News, detailed information on the defaulter status of government entities up to June 2024 has been disclosed. The Ministry of Energy’s Power Division submitted these details to the National Assembly.
It has been revealed that federal government entities owe PKR 47.81 billion to DISCOs, while agencies under provincial governments are delinquent by PKR 151.76 billion. Additionally, the departments of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government have not paid PKR 56.77 billion to DISCOs.
The Ministry of Energy’s Power Division has stated that due to the sensitive nature of these cases, DISCOs do not suspend electricity connections to these departments. Instead, official notices are issued to government departments regarding disconnection for non-payment.
