Farmers Criticize Diljit Dosanjh’s Meeting with Narendra Modi, Questioning His Support for Protests

Indian singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh is facing severe criticism from farmers following his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on New Year’s Day. According to reports from Indian media, the farmers have expressed disappointment and raised questions about Dosanjh’s commitment to the farmers’ movement, especially since he had previously supported their cause.

In a statement, the farmers argued that if Diljit truly cared for their plight, he should have joined them at the Singhu Border, listened to their concerns, and stood by his previous statements in support of their struggle. Instead, by meeting Prime Minister Modi, Dosanjh’s actions have cast doubt on his intentions, the farmers said. They emphasized that their struggle would continue until their demands are met.

It is worth recalling that in 2020, Diljit Dosanjh had strongly supported the farmers’ protest at the Singhu Border and had urged the government to address their demands.

On January 1st, Diljit Dosanjh shared a video on social media of his meeting with Prime Minister Modi, where the Prime Minister congratulated him on his global success. Modi expressed his pride in Dosanjh’s achievements, saying, “When a boy from an Indian village becomes famous worldwide, it brings great joy. Your name is Diljit, and you are winning the hearts of everyone.”

In response to Modi’s praise, Diljit Dosanjh commented, “We used to read ‘Mera Bharat Mahaan’ (My India is great), but when we visited different parts of the country, we truly understood its meaning.”

Farmers, however, are questioning how his meeting with Modi aligns with his earlier stance in support of their movement. The singer’s apparent shift has led to frustration among protestors, who have vowed to continue their fight until their demands are recognized.
