Expected Increase in Petroleum Prices for the New Year

Islamabad:As the new year approaches, there is an indication that petroleum product prices may rise. The federal government, which reviews fuel prices every 15 days, is expected to increase the prices of some key petroleum products for the upcoming month.

According to media reports, the government may raise the price of diesel by over 4 rupees per liter, while kerosene oil could see an increase of 1 rupee per liter. However, petrol prices are likely to remain unchanged.

### Current Prices of Petroleum Products:

As of December 16, 2023, the price of petrol was maintained at **252.10 PKR** per liter. On the other hand, the price of high-speed diesel was reduced by **3.05 PKR** per liter, bringing it to **255.38 PKR** per liter.

Kerosene oil saw a reduction of **3.32 PKR** per liter, bringing the price down to **161.66 PKR** per liter, while the price of light diesel oil decreased by **2.78 PKR** per liter, bringing its new price to **148.95 PKR** per liter.

The anticipated price hike, if implemented, will likely affect the cost of transportation and daily goods, especially with the onset of the new year. The government’s price adjustment will depend on fluctuations in global oil prices and domestic market conditions.
