Discovery of Gold Reserves Worth 800 Billion Rupees Near Attock

Attock:A major discovery has been made near Attock in Punjab, where gold reserves worth approximately 800 billion rupees (or 2.87 billion USD) have been found in the Indus River. Former Punjab caretaker Minister for Minerals, Ibrahim Hassan Murad, revealed the discovery on social media, stating that these gold reserves are spread over a 32-kilometer-long stretch near Attock.
According to Ibrahim Hassan Murad, the Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) confirmed the existence of these reserves after collecting samples from 127 locations. The reserves are estimated to be around 2.8 million tola (approximately 35,000 kg) of gold, making it one of the largest gold discoveries in the region.
This is not the first time Murad has made claims about gold reserves in Attock. In February 2024, as the provincial minister, he had already stated that billions of dollars worth of gold exist in the Indus River near Attock, citing the findings of the Geological Survey of Pakistan. Additionally, he mentioned that nine blocks of placer gold have been identified and will soon be auctioned off.
Furthermore, the GSP’s survey also revealed the presence of other minerals such as zinc, silver, nickel, manganese, and copper alongside the gold. Murad explained that the research on the placer gold reserves was conducted over an area spanning 75 square kilometers.
