CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz Approves New “Sahulat Bazaars” Across the Province

Lahore, Pakistan – Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has approved the establishment of new “Sahulat Bazaars” (Convenience Markets) throughout the province. The initiative is aimed at providing essential food items to the weaker and middle-income groups at affordable prices. Under the plan, 13 new markets are set to be established, with the completion deadline set for August.

In a directive issued by the Chief Minister, she ordered the completion of ongoing projects for these new markets and also announced the creation of convenience markets in cities such as No Shahrorkan, Burewala, Kabirwala, Sangla, and Jalalpur. Additionally, the principle decision has been made to establish extra Sahulat Bazaars in Bahawalpur, Attock, and Murree. CM Maryam Nawaz has instructed the district administrations to allocate land for these new markets.

Maryam Nawaz further requested a comprehensive plan for the development of these markets and has approved the conversion of these markets to solar energy. This shift to solar power will reduce electricity costs by up to 70%.

She emphasized that the objective of setting up Sahulat Bazaars is to ease the financial burden on the lower and middle classes by providing food items at lower prices. She also stated that, under the vision of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, efforts are being made to combat inflation.

The Chief Minister has also approved over 690 million rupees in funding for the solar energy conversion of these markets, which will directly lead to lower rates for consumers. The solar energy pilot project in Township has already been successfully completed.

Furthermore, CM Maryam Nawaz has directed the removal of obstacles for setting up Sahulat Bazaars in Jhelum, Muzaffargarh, and Narowal and has instructed the rapid identification of land for the markets in Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar, Attock, and Murree.
