Balochistan Farmers Protest Against Electricity Outage, Demand Immediate Action

Mustung:In a recent meeting, farmers from the Gargap region of Balochistan strongly condemned the ongoing electricity outage that has been severely affecting agricultural activities in the region. The farmers called for immediate steps to prevent the further destruction of crops and to address the worsening energy crisis.

According to the details, for the past four months, farmers in Balochistan have faced a complete power shutdown. Previously, they would receive only three hours of electricity per day for irrigation, but now they have been left without power entirely. As a result, even basic needs like water for drinking have become difficult to fulfill.

The farmers highlighted the critical timing of this electricity shortage, as the period between October 15 and November 15 is crucial for wheat sowing in Balochistan. The ongoing power crisis is expected to severely impact the sowing season, leading to potential long-term agricultural crises. Additionally, from September 15 to January 15, the region enters the season for sowing pulses and cumin, which is also at risk if the power issue remains unresolved.

The farmers also pointed out that their grape and apple orchards, which have already been suffering due to the poor treatment by the WAPDA (Water and Power Development Authority), have now dried up.

In light of the ongoing issues, the farmers demanded that the government expose the alleged collusion between WAPDA and the agricultural mafia, which is exacerbating the situation. They urged the authorities to clarify the true situation to the farmers and to take immediate action to ensure that the crops and livelihoods of the farmers are not ruined.

As a result of this crisis, the farmer representatives warned that they would hold a large-scale protest in Islamabad within a week. They called on all farmers to join the rally and lend their full support to the cause. The farmers have made it clear that if their demands are not met, they will take more drastic steps to bring their issues to national attention.
