Heavy Rain Forecast Across Pakistan as Rawalpindi, Islamabad Face Urban Flooding

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall today in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and parts of Kashmir.

Meanwhile, torrential overnight rain in Rawalpindi and Islamabad caused several underpasses in G-6 to become inundated with rainwater.

In Chatta Bakhtawar, roads and streets were flooded, with rainwater entering residential houses. At Kattarian, the water level in Nullah Lai reached 19 feet, prompting authorities to issue an alert for nearby communities.

A rain emergency has been declared in Rawalpindi, while Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) teams and heavy machinery have been deployed to deal with the situation.

Saidpur recorded the highest rainfall in Rawalpindi at 85 millimetres, followed by Golra with 75mm, Shamsabad 65mm, Pirwadhai 64mm, Gawalmandi 62mm and Bokra 50mm.

Meanwhile, the Indus River at Kalabagh is experiencing medium-level flooding, with water inflow recorded at 396,000 cusecs. Low-level flooding has also been reported at Tarbela Dam, Chashma Barrage, Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur barrages.

According to the Flood Forecasting Division Lahore, the situation in the remaining rivers across the country remains normal.
