Trump Welcomes Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan’s Mecca Defense Pact

WASHINGTON:US President Donald Trump has welcomed the recently signed Mecca Mutual Defense Pact between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, describing it as an important step toward greater regional unity and security.
In a statement posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said he was pleased to see Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan finally sign the Mecca Mutual Defense Pact.
“This is a sign that the Middle East is uniting and that countries will finally be able to defend themselves more effectively,” Trump said.
The US president congratulated the leadership of all three countries, describing the agreement as a “big, bold and important first step.”
The defense pact was signed in Mecca on August 7 by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Under the agreement, an attack on any one of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia or Türkiye will be considered an attack on all three countries.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office had previously indicated that the scope of the agreement could be expanded, saying the pact was not necessarily limited to the three signatory countries in matters related to peace and security.
The agreement is being viewed as a significant development in regional defense cooperation among the three countries.
