Government Considers Converting Some Public Buildings into Five-Star Hotels
ISLAMABAD (Qudrat Daily): Prime Minister has directed authorities to convert some government buildings in the federal capital into hotels to address the shortage of international-standard accommodation for major global events.
A three-member ministerial committee has been constituted to oversee implementation of the decision. In the first phase, the Shahid-e-Millat Building has been proposed for conversion into a five-star hotel.
According to sources, consultations are currently underway on the proposed conversion of the Shahid-e-Millat Building into a five-star hotel. The ministers for Interior, Finance and Housing have been assigned the task of overseeing the project.
The ministerial committee will review plans to transform the building into a modern hotel and examine the feasibility and other aspects of the project.
The Shahid-e-Millat Building covers an area of approximately 4,400 square yards and has the capacity to accommodate 128 rooms. According to sources, the building also has the potential to accommodate 64 luxury suites.
Sources said Islamabad would require thousands of additional rooms during the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting. More than 4,000 hotel rooms are expected to be required in the federal capital for the SCO event.
The proposed conversion of government buildings into hotels is aimed at improving accommodation facilities in Islamabad and meeting the requirements of international conferences and major events.
