When Will Ramadan 2027 Begin? Astronomical Forecast Points to February 8

ISLAMABAD: An astronomical forecast has emerged regarding the expected start of Ramadan 2027 and the likely date of Eid-ul-Fitr.

According to astronomical calculations, the first day of Ramadan 2027 is expected to fall on Monday, February 8, 2027, although the final date will be determined after the sighting of the crescent moon.

The new moon marking the beginning of Ramadan is expected to be observed on the evening of February 7. If the crescent is sighted, Taraweeh prayers are expected to begin that night, followed by the first fast on February 8.

Ramadan may last either 29 or 30 days. Based on the expected lunar cycle, Eid-ul-Fitr could fall on Wednesday, March 10, 2027, subject to the sighting of the Shawwal crescent.

Experts explain that the Islamic lunar year consists of approximately 354 days, around 11 days shorter than the solar year. As a result, Ramadan moves approximately 10 to 11 days earlier each year on the Gregorian calendar.

This gradual shift means that Ramadan passes through different seasons over a period of roughly 33 years, allowing Muslims to experience fasting under varying weather and daylight conditions.

While modern astronomical calculations can accurately estimate the birth of the new moon and the possibility of its visibility, the final dates for the beginning of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr will be officially determined according to Islamic tradition following the sighting of the crescent.

Ramadan is the ninth and one of the holiest months of the Islamic calendar. During the month, Muslims observe fasting and devote greater attention to worship, Quranic recitation, charity and helping those in need.
