Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye Expected to Sign Joint Defence Agreement Today
RIYADH: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye are expected to sign a joint defence agreement today as the three countries continue consultations aimed at strengthening defence and strategic cooperation.
According to media reports, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to arrive in Saudi Arabia today, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir are already in Riyadh with high-level delegations.
The three countries are holding detailed discussions on defence partnerships, collective security, military cooperation, and regional peace and stability. A joint defence agreement is reportedly being finalised, with its signing expected today.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia already have a strategic cooperation agreement, while Kuwait has also recently agreed to enhance defence cooperation with Pakistan.
High-level meetings in Riyadh are expected to focus on the overall regional situation, efforts to promote peace following recent tensions involving Iran, protection of maritime routes, defence cooperation and regional security.
Meanwhile, a US television network has claimed that US President Donald Trump is also expected to speak by telephone with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman today. The two leaders are expected to discuss the situation in the Middle East and other important regional matters.
