Family of Missing Baloch Activist Deljan Baloch Protests for His Safe Return in Awaran
Awaran:The family of Deljan Baloch, who has been missing since June 12, 2024, has raised alarm over the lack of progress in his case. According to the central spokesperson of the Baloch Women Forum, Deljan Baloch went missing from Awaran, and his family has been struggling to find any information about his whereabouts since that day. Despite knocking on every door in search of justice, the family has faced nothing but disappointment and frustration.
On October 3, Deljan’s family staged a sit-in protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office in Awaran, demanding his immediate release. After three days of protest, the family was assured that Deljan would be recovered soon, prompting them to end their protest temporarily. However, no information regarding Deljan’s whereabouts has been provided so far.
In response to the continued silence, Deljan’s family organized another protest in Awaran, which included a rally and a sit-in outside the DC office. The protestors also blocked the Awaran to Karachi road in the morning. Despite these efforts, the family alleges that they are being intimidated by the Awaran administration, with officials warning them to end the protest or face consequences. Shopkeepers in the area have reportedly been threatened with not providing supplies, such as tents, to the protestors.
Since last night, the protesters have been sitting under the open sky as local authorities have reportedly cut off the internet network in Awaran, preventing any communication with the outside world. The Baloch Women Forum has condemned the actions of the Awaran district administration, emphasizing that if any harm comes to the protestors, the responsibility will lie with the district authorities.
The Forum has expressed full support for the family’s actions and vowed to stand by them in whatever decision they make moving forward. The ongoing protest has drawn attention to the troubling issue of enforced disappearances in the region, as the family continues to demand answers regarding Deljan’s whereabouts.
