Fawad Chaudhry Criticizes Mohsin Naqvi, Says Interior Minister Is ‘Confused’ Over His Own Remarks

Islamabad: Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has criticized Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi over his recent remarks about the country’s governance, saying the minister appears to be “trapped by his own statements” and lacks a clear position.

In a post on X, Fawad Chaudhry said Mohsin Naqvi had acknowledged that the system had collapsed while simultaneously insisting on remaining part of the government and completing its five-year term.

Mocking the interior minister’s stance, Fawad wrote that the government claims Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is performing well despite admitting that governance problems persist. He questioned how the government could defend its performance while also describing the system as dysfunctional.

His comments came a day after Mohsin Naqvi said that no amount of political criticism would prevent the current government from completing its constitutional five-year tenure. He rejected claims that he had “charge-sheeted” the government, stressing that he himself is a member of the cabinet.

Speaking to reporters, Naqvi said he had only urged the prime minister to order an independent third-party audit of all ministries and make the results public so citizens could assess each ministry’s performance.

He maintained that his earlier remarks referred to systemic issues that have accumulated over the past 80 years, not the current government alone. Naqvi argued that Pakistan’s administrative system has long been in need of reform and said that with a more efficient system, the government could deliver significantly better results.

The interior minister also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s work ethic, saying the premier works up to 16 hours a day, and expressed confidence that the government would complete its full five-year term.
