Iran Clarifies Oman Maritime Talks Do Not Signal Changes to Strait of Hormuz Policy

Tehran:Iran has clarified that ongoing discussions with Oman regarding new maritime routes should not be interpreted as an indication that the Strait of Hormuz is being opened or closed.

According to foreign media reports, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that the understanding reached between Iran and Oman on certain new shipping routes is purely related to maritime transportation and technical matters.

He emphasized that the talks have no connection with the current status of the Strait of Hormuz and should not be viewed as evidence of any Iranian decision to alter its policy regarding the strategically important waterway.

Baghaei stressed that Iran has made no announcement of any change in its policy toward the Strait of Hormuz, urging the media and the international community to interpret reports on the issue in their proper context.

He further stated that some media outlets have presented the discussions with Oman in a misleading manner, creating unnecessary confusion at the international level.

The clarification comes at a time when developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz remain under close global scrutiny, as the vital maritime passage is considered essential for international trade and global energy supplies.

Experts note that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes, through which a significant share of global oil and natural gas exports passes.
