Balochistan High Court Suspends Notification Abolishing Kalat Division, Including Mastung’s Merger with Quetta Division
QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) has suspended the provincial government’s notification abolishing Kalat Division and merging Mastung district into Quetta Division, granting a stay order until further proceedings in the case.
The constitutional petition was filed by Sardar-e-Sarawan Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani, challenging the Balochistan government’s decision to alter the administrative status of Mastung district and end the historical identity of Kalat Division.
During the hearing, a two-member bench of the Balochistan High Court ordered that the government’s notification shall remain suspended and directed that its implementation be halted until the next hearing.
The court also issued notices to the concerned parties and adjourned the proceedings. The next hearing has been scheduled for August 6, 2026.
According to the court’s order, both the notification abolishing Kalat Division and the notification regarding Mastung’s inclusion in Quetta Division will remain suspended until the matter is heard again.
The petition argues that the decision carries significant administrative and historical implications for the region. The High Court’s interim order effectively preserves the previous administrative status pending a final determination of the case.
