Report Claims Trump Switched Aircraft Over Security Concerns After NATO Summit

The New York Times has claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump switched to an older Air Force One aircraft at the last minute following the NATO summit due to potential security threats from Iranian proxy groups.

According to the report, U.S. Secret Service officials advised Trump to use the older presidential aircraft for his departure from Türkiye instead of the newly acquired Air Force One, which was reportedly gifted by Qatar. The report said the newer aircraft lacked certain advanced security and counterterrorism systems available on the existing presidential plane.

The newspaper said Trump followed the recommendation and flew from Türkiye to England aboard the older Air Force One, raising questions about the security capabilities of the newly gifted aircraft.

The report further claimed that both the president and the aircraft could have been exposed to potential security risks during the trip.

The claims surfaced as Trump was reportedly meeting with senior advisers and Cabinet members to discuss whether to intensify military action against Iran.

According to the report, Trump traveled to the NATO summit in Türkiye on July 7 aboard the new aircraft but returned using the older Air Force One.
