Political and Religious Leaders Condemn Highway Attacks, Call for National Unity and Improved Security
Quetta: Prominent political and religious leaders have strongly condemned the recent looting and burning of cargo trucks on Balochistan’s highways, describing the attacks as an extreme act of ظلم (cruelty) and accusing the government of failing to ensure public safety.
The remarks were made by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Balochistan chief Senator Maulana Abdul Wasey, National Party central secretary and provincial lawmaker Mir Rehmat Saleh Baloch, Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan chief and MPA Maulana Hidayat Ur Rehman, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Balochistan president Daud Shah Kakar while commenting on the country’s current situation.
The leaders alleged that traders’ cargo trucks traveling on the Quetta–Karachi and Quetta–Punjab highways were being intercepted in broad daylight, looted, and later set on fire. They said such incidents have created fear among transporters and ordinary citizens, discouraging travel on key national highways.
They criticized the federal and provincial governments, claiming they had failed to maintain law and order and provide adequate security on the province’s roads. The leaders also questioned the effectiveness of the government’s response to the deteriorating security situation.
Despite political differences, the leaders stressed the need for all political forces to adopt a positive and democratic approach in the national interest. They said Pakistan is facing multiple challenges, including economic difficulties, and called for greater political harmony and cooperation to strengthen national stability.
They urged political parties to avoid attempts to undermine one another and instead work collectively to promote democracy, justice, and the country’s long-term development.
