Four Killed as Passenger Coach Caught in Crossfire During Security Operation in Mastung and Kalat
Mastung/Kalat: At least four passengers were killed and several others injured after a passenger coach was caught in crossfire during clashes between security forces and armed militants in Balochistan’s Mastung and Kalat districts, according to initial reports.
The clashes erupted in the Khad Kocha area of Mastung and near Manguchar in Kalat, where security forces engaged armed militants in an operation. Heavy gunfire reportedly continued for several hours, creating panic among local residents.
During the exchange of fire, an Al-Yousuf passenger coach traveling from Quetta to Karachi was struck by gunfire. Witnesses said the coach was passing through the area when it came under fire. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, where some are reported to be in critical condition.
Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the affected areas and launched a search and clearance operation. Officials said armed militants offered resistance at several locations, and operations are continuing to secure the region.
The Quetta–Karachi National Highway has been temporarily closed at Khad Kocha, Manguchar, and other sensitive points, leaving hundreds of vehicles, passenger buses, and cargo trucks stranded on both sides of the road. Women, children, and elderly travelers are among those facing significant travel difficulties.
Security agencies have deployed additional personnel and tightened checkpoints, while rescue teams and law enforcement authorities are working to evacuate the injured and reopen the highway as soon as conditions allow.
The local administration has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel on the Quetta–Karachi National Highway until the security situation improves. Travelers have also been advised to check with district authorities or National Highway officials for the latest updates before beginning their journey and to rely only on verified information rather than rumors.
The ongoing clashes have also disrupted business activities in the area, while mobile phone services have reportedly been affected at several locations. Security forces said operations will continue until the area has been fully cleared and secured.
