Unannounced Power Outages and Low Voltage Disrupt Life in Quetta
Quetta: Residents of Quetta have voiced growing concern over prolonged unannounced power outages and persistent low voltage, saying the situation has disrupted daily life and caused significant financial losses.
According to local residents, frequent electricity cuts during the ongoing hot weather have become routine, while repeated voltage fluctuations have damaged household electrical appliances, including refrigerators, air conditioners, fans, water pumps, and televisions. Many families claim they have suffered losses worth hundreds of thousands of rupees due to damaged equipment.
Citizens say prolonged outages have made daily life increasingly difficult, particularly for children, elderly people, women, and patients, who are struggling to cope with the intense summer heat. Many neighborhoods also experience hours-long electricity cuts during the night, affecting sleep and normal routines.
Residents further complained that despite paying high electricity bills, they continue to face unreliable power supply and have seen little progress in resolving the problems of low voltage and repeated outages.
The electricity disruptions have also affected businesses, students’ studies, and water supply in several areas, as many water pumping systems rely on electricity.
Citizens have called on the Government of Balochistan, the Ministry of Energy, the district administration, and the relevant power distribution company to end unannounced load-shedding, permanently address low-voltage issues, and ensure a stable electricity supply.
Residents warned that if the issue is not addressed promptly, public protests could intensify as people continue to endure prolonged outages, low voltage, and extreme summer temperatures.
