Yemen’s Houthi Movement Announces Naval Blockade of Saudi Arabia

SANAA: Yemen’s Houthi movement, Ansar Allah, has announced a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, escalating tensions in the region amid ongoing hostilities.

A spokesperson for Ansar Allah stated that the naval blockade is being imposed in response to what the group described as Saudi Arabia’s blockade and actions against Yemen. The spokesperson said the decision was taken as a retaliatory measure against Saudi policies toward the war-torn country.

The announcement comes days after the Houthis accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport and vowed to respond. Following those allegations, the group reportedly launched missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, which Saudi defense systems successfully intercepted and thwarted.

Meanwhile, British news agency Reuters reported that the Iranian-backed Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia have raised serious concerns in Pakistan. According to the report, Pakistan has conveyed to Iran that Saudi Arabia represents a “red line” for Islamabad and that any attack on the Kingdom would be considered an attack on Pakistan’s vital interests.

The latest developments have further heightened tensions in the Middle East and may have significant implications for regional security and maritime trade routes in the Red Sea and surrounding waters.
