Paresh Rawal Calls Media Coverage of Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death a ‘Circus’

Mumbai: Veteran Indian actor Paresh Rawal has strongly criticized the media coverage surrounding the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, describing it as a “circus” that he deeply disliked.

Speaking on Vickey Lalwani’s podcast, Rawal revealed that during the COVID-19 lockdown, he largely stayed away from television news channels, partly due to concerns about his blood pressure. Reflecting on the extensive media attention given to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, he said, “I hated the circus that the media created around Sushant Singh’s death.”

The senior actor expressed his disappointment over the sensationalism surrounding the tragic incident, which dominated news coverage across India at the time.

During the same interview, Rawal also spoke about his decision to step away from politics. He recalled being elected as a Member of Parliament from Ahmedabad East on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. However, he soon realized that politics was not the right path for him.

“I cannot lie,” Rawal said, adding that his biggest fear in politics was having to make promises that he might not be able to fulfill.

The actor further stated that after spending decades in the film industry, he now feels more confident and accomplished in his craft than ever before. He has chosen to focus entirely on acting, which he considers his true identity, rather than pursuing a political career.

Rawal’s remarks have reignited discussions about media ethics and the sensational coverage that followed Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in 2020.
